Patent Registration

A Patent is an exclusive right granted by the government to an inventor for a new invention. It gives the patent holder the legal right to prevent others from making, using, selling, or importing the invention without permission.

In India, patents are governed by the Patents Act, 1970 (amended in 2005 to comply with TRIPS). The term of a patent is 20 years from the date of filing.

Important Filing Tips

  • Avoid public disclosure before filing (it destroys novelty)
  • Provisional specification can be filed to secure early priority
  • Patent rights are territorial — separate applications needed in other countries

Patent Registration provides strong legal protection for your invention and helps you commercialize it exclusively for 20 years. It is a valuable asset that can be licensed, sold, or used strategically for business growth.
